Day Twenty-Five

Jane Evans   -

Joshua 1:17

Just as we fully obeyed Moses, so we will obey you. Only may the Lord your God be with you as he was with Moses.

I read this over quite a few times because it seems like a harmless, and in fact, a perfectly good thing to say. And then it struck me, and I started to laugh, because the truth is, that they DIDN’T always obey Moses, or certainly didn’t obey him without complaining and criticizing! The Bible’s account and their memory seem to be quite different, and then they have the audacity to say, we’ll only obey you if THE LORD your God is with you as He was with Moses!

I thought about how this relates to you and I and that so often, what we think happened and our recollection of what people did or didn’t do, is so radically different from other people’s recollection. We get stuck in defending our position and proving people wrong that we forget the main game is to be moving forward and taking territory!

Joshua of all people had the right to remind them of their stubbornness and their parents’ disobedience and refusal to listen to him because it put his life on hold for 40 years, but I love that he doesn’t seem to get “stuck” on this. He doesn’t allow himself to be drawn into the discrepancy but focuses on the goal ahead and allows them to add to the encouragement that God has already repeatedly given, to be bold and courageous, and let God lead him as He did Moses.

Today I want to remind you who the real fight is with! It is with the giants that are stopping you from possessing the inheritance God has given you; The fight is with principalities, powers, and rulers of darkness in this world, NOT WITH FLESH AND BLOOD. Don’t waste your energy fighting the wrong things or the wrong people. Be bold and courageous enough to let it go and keep moving forward!

Blessings,

Jane Evans
