Day Fifteen

Jane Evans   -

Joshua 1:8

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful

This verse is God reinforcing what he says in verse 7, and the fact that God is repeating the need to meditate on His word should give us a BIG hint that its fairly important to our boldness and courage!

When God says “This book of the law” He is speaking about the Torah that Moses had just finished writing. In it were the principles of building a nation and how to live under God’s blessing and outlining the 10 commandments and the law. So what does “meditate on the law day and night” mean to us as New Testament Christians, how does it apply to us, now that Jesus has fulfilled the law and established a new covenant of GRACE?

John 1:16

For law came through Moses, but grace came through the Lord Jesus Christ.

As NT believers we are not to meditate on the books of the Torah. That’s not what God wants. What God wants from us is to meditate on the LAW OF GRACE.

It’s really important that we get the revelation that we are under grace and not under law.

Roman 6:14

14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

Ps. Ashley mentioned in his message on Sunday Jan 19th that there are, what he termed “Domino habits.” Domino habits are habits that trigger the fulfillment of all the other things you want to do but are struggling to find the willpower or the time to do. For instance getting up at 5am every morning has become a Domino Habit, that has helped him exercise, pray and plan his day.

And meditating on the law of Grace is a HUGE Domino Habit, it replaces wrong thinking with GRACE thinking and when we understand God’s grace it makes us BOLD and COURAGEOUS!

The writer to the Hebrews makes this statement after describing the New Covenant of Grace and how it replaces the law because the blood of Jesus has fulfilled the requirement of the law:

Hebrews 10:19

19 And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus.

If you meditate on God’s ‘law’ of Grace, todays verse says,”Then you will be prosperous and successful”
