Day Ten

Jane Evans   -

Joshua 1:4

From the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites, and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun, shall be your coast.

All the land of the Hittites

The Hittites were one of three people groups possessing the land of Canaan and were by far the most ferocious and warlike. It was these people who struck terror in the hearts of the spies, and it’s interesting that they alone get a special mention by God in His promise to be with Joshua and his people. We just read in the previous verse that in order to possess the land, their feet first had to set foot on it.

The name Hittites is derived from The verb חתת (hatat) which means to deplete of strength, courage, willpower or any essential support, the ultimate end resulting in a collapse of sorts. The nouns associated with the verb describe the various nuances of debilitating or paralyzing terror or fear. The identical adjective חת (hat) means shattered or dismayed.

God wants to give you ALL THE LAND that is currently being possessed by something that causes you fear and dismay. He wants to give you victory over whatever is creating debilitating depletion of your strength and will power. Are you willing to confront that fear today, step foot on it and declare that in God’s strength you will face it and allow His GRACE to overwhelm it and defeat it? Remember God said that HE WOULD DRIVE OUT THE INHABITANTS OF THE LAND FOR THEM, they just had to be willing to move forward with him.

Blessings,
