Day Three

Jane Evans   -

Joshua 1:1

After the death of Moses the Lord’s servant, the Lord spoke to Joshua son of Nun, Moses’ assistant. He said,

AFTER the death of Moses the Lord spoke…… There is so much in those few words!

Firstly, we have to let go of the past, no matter HOW GOOD IT WAS to possess the future. While we are keeping the past alive it distracts us from our future, because it really is our present reality.

Secondly, while the past is alive we can’t hear God speak to us about our future. Joshua may have missed his destiny if Moses had never died. He would have continued to look to Moses for leadership, and continued expecting God to speak to Moses, and then relay what He had said to Joshua. Sometimes we are like that, we want God to speak to others about us and then we will follow. While this isn’t bad, God wants us to understand that there is a maturity that comes from letting go of the past and leaning in with open ears, and understanding that He wants to speak to US, personally about our future.

Thirdly, Moses represented the law, as it was given to the people from God through him. The law kept them alive in the wilderness but the law couldn’t take them into the promised land. God wants us to change our focus from law to grace so that we can embrace all that He has for us in our future. In order to do that our daily dependence on the law needs to die.

What is it that you need to let go of so that God can speak to you about His plans for your future? Let the old way of thinking that you have to do good to get good die as you learn to accept that your future has already been planned by grace.

Blessings,
